Running Methods

Ogilvie’s view that we required resolution was favored by all the women. A woman said that when she began to run, she felt good and thought it was a great joy. In our society, girls did not have the same feeling to boys. But it really demanded for courage. Another woman said that a woman who participated in a competition should win a medal, because she broke the deep-rooted stereotype in people’s heart.

More and more women bounded to break this idea. In my home, my younger sister always runs. Alice, who is my wife has run seven miles. Birney Park, which was under the high-slope in my hometown, has many women run in it. Every time I went to work in Manhattan, I would like to run in the Central Park. There are always some women running in a small road around the reservoir.

There were many women took part in running, their purpose was to keep healthy. Orison Otto recalled his mood at the age of 29. When we were over twelve years old, our body would decrease and my body also declined at the age of twelve. Because of that I did not keep my eyes on how to keep healthy. I lost my stamina if I had it before.

If you caught a sight of my diseases, not only my physical frail, but also my illness. I suffered from insomnia, constipation and migraines, which lasted for bout two days and happened two times per month. I was grumpy and nervous. Back in the past, I thought I never had a real life.

Kathleen Lance started to run on account of another reason. He took up this activity under the too much pressure. He was overweight, because he smoked too much. Then he suffered from high blood pressure and was scared. I went to a quack; he told me that I did not have to worry. He also told me not to eat a little salt. If my blood pressure continued to rise a few months later, he would give me a prescription. I knew that the pills not only had horrible side effects, but also could make you despondent; because I had read some introductory articles of this high blood pressure pills. Once you took this drug, you could not leave it in your life. It was not my wish to take the pills. I heard that blood pressure could be reduced by jogging. So I bought the new aerobic study that was written by Doctor Cooper. I began jogging after I read the book. Miss Lance’s blood pressure has been normal, in fact, the normal low. She and other women who took part in running also felt another side effect’s advantages Details would be talked below.

What should women do when they take part in running at the first time. As we mentioned at the first part of this article; women’s running was similar with men’s running. Therefore, the principles outlined in other sections would apply to both men and women. However, because of that women’s features on anatomy and physical, also some common danger for women than for men. There are differences between men and women. Women would encounter more trouble than men when they went to buy running clothes. They can not find the suitable breeches. But, so far, no special breeches were made for women. Men’s similar running shorts could buy in tennis stores. But the price was a little expensive. Many women would wear bathing trunks in summer as a solution to this problem.

Marathon Eating Plan

marathon No Comments »

Proper food choices and eating patterns are essential components of your marathon training program. They can also have a big influence on your race results. To prevent weight loss and build your energy, endurance and stamina, the three most important things to remember when creating your marathon eating plan for training and event day are:

1. Carbohydrate Loading: train with your carbohydrate loading plan at least three times with one of your longer training runs, before race day

-Dinner the night before your event: choose a meal rich in carbohydrate like pasta or whole grains. Ex: 1.5-2cups whole grain pasta, 5 oz chicken, 2/3 cup marinara sauce OR 1.5-2 cups brown rice, 1 cup stir fried vegetables, 5 oz chicken or fish.

-You will notice that there is some protein present. You should not eat carbohydrates exclusively. The presence of protein will slow down the digestion and absorption of the meal and offer a longer energy burn.

-Snack before bed (at least 2 hours before bedtime): have an additional 1-2 cups of pasta, rice, or other whole grain.

-Morning of the event (Finish eating by 6AM. 7AM Marathon start)
ex. cup oatmeal with 1 scoop protein powder and banana
OR 2 eggs & toast with nut butter OR banana and Raw Organic bar or Lara Bar
OR banana and a bagel with 1-2 T nut butter

2. Hydration: It is not necessary to use sports drinks (electrolyte replacements) during lighter training. You can add an electrolyte replacement tablet to your water or use 20% real fruit juice to 80% water for more intense workouts and practice runs.

-You need to sip water consistently throughout the evening and morning leading up to the race. You do not need to overdo this. Sip an additional glass through the evening and one in the morning. Do not drink a glass of water all at once within an hour of your race.

-No food or drink by mouth for one full hour before race time.

3. Train with Event Sponsored Food and Beverages: You need to train for at least three weeks leading up to the event using the event sponsored beverages and food that will be offered on race day.

The Rock N Roll Marathon, Seattle is being sponsored by Cytomax (makes Muscle Milk) and Gu Energy.

-If you train with water (or any Sports Drink), for example, and on race day you drink the event sponsored drink there is a very good chance that you will get a stomach ache, side ache or have your race affected in some other negative way. Every sports nutritionist will tell you that even if this is a switch from Powerade to Gatorade, this affect will occur.

Seattle nutritionist Angela Pifer has been writing professionally since 2005, with her work published on MSN Health and Kashi.com. Pifer creates custom Seattle Weight Loss programs in her private practice with offices in Bellevue and Seattle, WA. Pifer holds Masters of Science in nutrition from Bastyr University, where she is also adjunct faculty.

Marathon for bees

marathon No Comments »

For human being, we have a marathon, the long distance running event. It is the Olympic event that attracts more than 500 people throughout the world each year. Sometimes we also have a few special competitions for animals. However, have you ever thought about a marathon for insects? It is amazing that bees also have the marathon like human. Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants. They are considered as the most industrious insects because of their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. Joining this special marathon, bees have become real athletes, bringing unforgettable time for their owners and viewers.

Bees are on the point of departure. They are kept in cups for not going out.

Bees are carefully prepared and they are ready to run.

On the race-track, bees are trying to run as fast as possible.

The first bee reaches the finish. The happiness can be clearly seen on the face of the bee’s owner.

This photo is about the winner and the reward that he deserved to have. The reward includes coins and paper money.

Marathon Motivation

marathon No Comments »

On Monday, May 25, 2009 I had the pleasure of watching my boyfriend cross the finish line for the LA Marathon. It was an amazing event. Minus of course some misdirection and rerouting – all in all it was a pretty smooth event. It was nice and overcast all morning; perfect weather for a marathon in Los Angeles. I can’t tell you what it’s like to train for an event like this or even run it, well maybe not yet. What I can tell you is how motivating and inspiring it is just being there.

We stayed the night in a historic hotel downtown. I think it might be haunted. That’s a whole other story, but some other time. We had to stay since the race began at seven am. The wake up call was set for five. Excited we sprang from bed turned on the news and got ready as fast as possible. (Plus I just wanted to get out of that hotel.) Parking was close and easy. Next stop just a little more coffee and off to the start line. There was energy in the air you could almost taste it. Or maybe that was the remnants of the bad coffee we made in the hotel. People were bustling about early in the closed off streets of downtown Los Angeles.

Finally, we hit the gate- only runners beyond this point. I give him a kiss and wish him luck. It will be about four hours before I see him at the finish line. I head off to find my spot. This is where all the redirection and crowd dodging begins. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement. People are smiling and I can’t help but smile too. People have signs cheering on friends and loved ones. There are people in costume. There are groups with t-shirts made just for this occasion. I make my way to the start or somewhere close to the starting line.

I nestle in under a television camera up on a boom. The race begins and the enthusiasm is unleashed. Now I have a burst of energy. I decide it’s time to find my spot at the finish line. I know the race just started but I am a short girl and I need to make my claim quick. I have my own strategy to be able to see the finish and then make my way to the designated locations to meet the runners. My marathon begins.

It takes me a little time to find just the right spot but I have plenty of that. While I wait to see him cross the finish line I witness several amazing finishes. Of course the winner who finished at two hours and eight minutes. Next there was one of the wheel chair racers whose modified bike was apparently not working. Someone towed his bike along side of him while he used his walker to cross the finish line. The crowd roared as he made his way cross the line. The closer he came the louder we got. It was incredibly inspiring and touching.

Next I saw a young boy, my guess he was 11, but he finished the marathon. I saw man carrying a drink tray like a server as well as a Spartan, or a man in a Spartan costume wrap up the race. Some people still had amazing amounts of energy to sprint to the finish in hopes to beat the runner next to them. While others were fueled by sheer determination; like the man I saw crawling towards the finish. Another runner came back to help the man up and complete the marathon. I then saw my boyfriend cross the finish! Of course I was the loudest person there for that moment. Then I was off to swoop him up and drive us home.

As we got to the car we shared our inspiring moments from the perspective of runner and spectator. It was incredible. I was so glad that I was able to be there for him and witness such an amazing event as a marathon. I am definitely inspired. Not necessarily to run a marathon but to action without a doubt. The people I witnessed crossing the finish gave me a glimpse of the endless possibilities in life. Now what I do with that is up to me.

Basic Running Form

running No Comments »

Competitive or not, a good running form is essential to have. Proper running mechanics can save from injuries and is a big factor in running faster and in a more efficient manner. Practicing these running positions will make a big difference in your running progress. In this article, we will discuss briefly the proper form when running.

Head
The head is an important part of the body to focus on when running. The alignment of the neck and back depends on the position of the head as you run. So when you run, never look down on your feet. The ideal position would be to look straight ahead of you and keep your chin in (don’t let it jut out). Scan the horizon and enjoy the scenery ahead of you. This running form must be maintained at all times.

Shoulders and Torso
Shoulders must be level – don’t let them dip side to side as you run. Maintain a position where they don’t reach your ears and let them loose. Most likely when you start to get tired, you will try to pull your shoulders up out of exhaustion. Never do this. Instead, shake your shoulders to take off the tension. The position of the torso is dependent on the head and the shoulder’s position. The torso must also be in a straight position [stretch yourself up to your full height] in order to breathe more effectively and have an optimum stride length. This running form is commonly referred to as “running tall’ position.

Arms and Hands
The arms must be kept in a relaxed position between the waist and lower chest with the elbows bent at a 90 degree angle. Every swing of the arms helps in propelling the body forward, but never swing across the body. Hands must not be clenched in a tight fist, but should be relaxed and in a position where the fingers are touching lightly the palm of your hands. If you start to feel the tension in your hands, try dropping your arms to your sides and then start to shake them. Do this for a few seconds only.

Legs and Feet
If you are a sprinter, you need to lift your knees high in order to maximize your leg power. But if you are a distance runner, a slight lifting of your knees plus a quick turnover and shorter strides are the appropriate running form. You can’t sustain the high knee lift when you are running for longer distances. As you run, landing in between your heels and midfoot is required with every step, along with hitting the ground lightly. Keep the ankles in a flexed position to promote a better push as you roll yourself forward.
